1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: Name, email address, password (encrypted), phone number (optional)
- Student profile: Student name, grade, high school, state, intended major
- App data: College lists, deadlines, checklist progress, document uploads, essay drafts, financial calculator inputs, roadmap preferences
- Communications: Emails you send to our support team
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, session duration
- Device info: Browser type, operating system, screen size
- IP address: Used for security and fraud prevention only
We do not collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or government ID information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to provide and improve the Service:
- To create and manage your account
- To power AI recommendations, essay feedback, and financial estimates
- To save and sync your data across devices
- To send essential service emails (password resets, important updates)
- To detect and prevent fraud and security threats
- To improve the accuracy and quality of our AI tools
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not use your data for behavioral advertising, profiling for third parties, or selling to data brokers.
3. How We Share Information
We share your information only in these limited circumstances:
Service providers
We use the following trusted third-party services to operate Clavis Prep. Each is bound by strict data processing agreements:
- Supabase โ database and authentication (servers in the US)
- Anthropic โ AI processing for essay feedback and recommendations
- Netlify โ website hosting and deployment
Legal requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
Business transfer
If Clavis Prep is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred. We will notify you and give you the option to delete your account before any such transfer takes place.
We never share your information with colleges, universities, scholarship organizations, or advertisers.
4. AI & Third-Party Services
Clavis Prep uses Anthropic's Claude AI to generate personalized content. When you use AI features, your inputs (essay text, profile information, financial inputs) are sent to Anthropic's API for processing.
- Anthropic processes your data according to their own privacy policy
- Your essays are not stored by Anthropic for AI training purposes under our API agreement
- We do not send more data than necessary to generate your requested output

5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit (TLS/SSL). We implement the following security measures:
- All passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms โ we cannot see your password
- All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS
- Database access is restricted with row-level security policies
- We regularly review and update our security practices
While we take reasonable precautions, no system is 100% secure. We will notify you promptly if we become aware of any security breach affecting your data.
6. Children's Privacy
Clavis Prep is designed for high school students (typically ages 13โ18) and their parents. We take children's privacy seriously.
- Users must be at least 13 years old. Users under 18 should have parental consent.
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13
- We do not serve targeted advertising to any users, including minors
- We do not share student data with colleges or universities
- Parents can request access to or deletion of their child's account by emailing support@clavisprep.com
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it.
7. Your Rights & Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of all data we hold about you
- Correction: Update inaccurate information in your account settings
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Opt-out: Unsubscribe from any marketing emails at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@clavisprep.com. We will respond within 30 days. Deletion requests will be processed within 14 days.
8. Cookies
Clavis Prep uses minimal cookies and browser storage:
- Authentication cookies: To keep you logged in between sessions (essential โ cannot be disabled)
- Preference storage: To remember your app settings (local storage)
We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies that share data with outside parties. You can clear your browser's cookies and local storage at any time, though this will log you out of the app.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
